Japan Platform sent a letter thanking JCIE for its support and for its timely action to raise funds, saying, “We hope to do our best as there are still areas that are deprived of relief assistance.”
JEN is sending teams of volunteers to serve food and help with clean-up. One such team has been serving lunches and dinners each day, providing about 100 people at each meal with fresh vegetables and other good foods. Many people have been surviving on rice balls (onigiri) every day, so they were very happy to have these nutritious meals. Malnutrition has been a growing concern among the evacuees. As they ate, the staff asked them what their greatest needs are. Some were worried that they had no clothes to wear once the weather turns warmer, while others needed brooms and dustpans to clean up with.
